Néstor Osvaldo Perlongher (Argentina / lived Brazil)

Born December 24, 1949 in Argentina, Néstor Osvaldo Perlongher graduated and completed his degree in sociology at the University of Buenos Aires before moving to São Paulo, Brazil were in studied for his Master’s degree in Social Anthropology at the University of Campinas. He was appointed as a professor in 1985.
Already he had published a volume of poetry in 1980, Austria-Hungría which revealed him as a maverick, and quickly he became deeply involved with various political positions, many in response to the Argentinian military dictatorship and the “dirty war” from 1976-1983. At different times he was described and characterized himself as a Trotskyite, anarchist, and a militant of the Argentine Gay Liberation Movement.
From the late 1980s to his death in 1992 of AIDS at the age of 43, Perlongher hurled into the public five further volumes of powerful and influential poetry, including Alambres, Hule, Parque Lezama, Aguas aéreas, and El Cuento de las iluminaciones. In its combination of radical linguistic experimentation and infusion of profoundly gay images and along with its political grounding made his poetry some of the most difficult and influential of Argentine writers of the later half of the 20th century. Alambreswas awarded the Premio "Boris Vian" de Literatura Argentina.
His non-fiction writing El Fantasmawas published in 1988. Several volumes of his non-fiction works were published after his death, including El negocio del deseo: la prostitución masculina(1993), Prosa plebeya (1997), Papeles insumisos (2004).
A collection of his poetry, Cadeverswas published by Cardboard House Press in English in 2018.
